Checking a Member's Status
To check whether an Appraisal Institute Member is a Member in good standing and whether such Member has any published disciplinary actions on his or her record you may contact Brendan Donnelly, 312-335-4409, 312-335-4410 (fax), bdonnelly@appraisalinstitute.org.
Published Actions
In the event that a member receives a disciplinary action of Censure, Suspension or Expulsion the Appraisal Institute publishes a notice of the disciplinary action imposed and the Ethical Rules violated.
Following are some published actions taken by the Appraisal Institute:
Vernon E. Peeples, Jr. of Punta Gorda, Florida, has been expelled from Residential Associate Membership in the Appraisal Institute for violating Ethical Rule 2-3(b) of the Code of Professional Ethics. The rule in effect at the time of the violation provided as follows:
E.R. 2-3 (b) It is unethical to knowingly fail or refuse to promptly submit any relevant documentation or information that is or should be in the possession or control of such Member when requested to do so by the Appraisal Institute, an Appraisal Institute committee or member thereof, or one of their duly authorized agents.
The Appraisal Institute has imposed the disciplinary action of Censure on F. Bruce Sauter, MAI, of Greenville, North Carolina, for violating Ethical Rules 1-1(d) and (e) of the Code of Professional Ethics. The rules in effect at the time of the violations provided as follows:
E.R. 1-1 It is unethical to knowingly: (d) contribute to or participate in an appraisal, review, or consulting opinion that reasonable appraisers would not believe to be justified; or (e) contribute to or participate in the preparation or delivery of a report containing an appraisal, review or consulting opinion that reasonable appraisers would not believe to be justified, whether or not such report is signed or delivered by the Member.
