Please note: A course may be not be repeated in subsequent cycles, unless the education program has been substantially revised. If you were suspended for failure to complete continuing education requirements at the time your membership lapsed, you must complete one-hundred (100) hours of continuing education, including the USPAP, BPE, and ACE requirements, within the five years prior to readmission. If I choose to complete one-hundred (100) hours of continuing education prior to readmission, will I be considered “continuing education complete?” (This Q&A applies if the ending date of your most recent Appraisal Institute continuing education cycle has passed.) If you complete one-hundred (100) hours of continuing education in the five (5) years prior to readmission, including completing the Business Practices and Ethics (BPE), Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and Advanced Continuing Education (ACE) requirements, you will be deemed “continuing education complete.” If you opt to complete only the BPE, USPAP and ACE requirements, you will not be considered “continuing education complete” and will be required to so note in the certifications of your appraisal reports.
If I choose to complete the one-hundred (100) hours of continuing education prior to application for readmission to designated membership, must all of my hours of continuing education be taken from the Appraisal Institute? No. The Appraisal Institute will provide you with credit for education programs taken from other providers if the programs meet the following requirements:
When I last held designated membership, I had to complete only the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP) and Business Practices and Ethics (BPE) course requirements for continuing education. When I am readmitted, what continuing education requirements will I need to fulfill? You will be required to complete one-hundred (100) hours of continuing education in every full five-year cycle. Such one-hundred (100) hours must include completion of the USPAP, BPE and Advanced Continuing Education (ACE) requirements.
Upon readmission, when will my first continuing education end? Upon readmission, you will be placed on a continuing education cycle beginning on the date of readmission and ending on the sixth December 31st after readmission. For example, if a member is readmitted on July 21, 2010, the member has until December 31, 2015 to fulfill continuing education requirements. Continuing education cycle dates can be viewed online.
Where can I find additional information on the Appraisal Institute continuing education program? If you have additional questions about continuing education, you may review Regulation No. 4 and Regulation No. 10. You also may visit the Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Appraisal Institute Continuing Education page on the Appraisal Institute website.
Must I submit any past work experience for review? If when your membership lapsed, you were subject to disciplinary action, disciplinary proceedings or certain peer review proceedings, or you were terminated due to expulsion, you must submit recent experience for a readmission review. You must receive a favorable recommendation based on that review for readmission.
Must I receive any other approvals for readmission? If when your membership lapsed, you were subject to disciplinary action, disciplinary proceedings or certain peer review proceedings, or you were terminated due to expulsion, you must receive a favorable readmission vote of sixty percent (60%) of the Board of Directors (in addition to the favorable recommendation from the readmission review noted in the above question).
If when my membership lapsed, I was subject to disciplinary action, disciplinary proceedings or certain peer review proceedings, or terminated due to expulsion, and I receive a favorable recommendation on an experience review and receive a sixty percent vote from the Board of Directors, will I have any additional continuing education requirements? You must complete one-hundred (100) hours of continuing education, including the USPAP, BPE, and ACE course requirements, within the five years prior to readmission.
May I return to designated membership under a Non-Practicing member status? Yes, if you qualify for non-practicing member status. You must provide an explanation on the application for readmission as to why you believe you qualify. If readmitted under non-practicing status, you may or may not be required to complete continuing education requirements upon readmission, depending on an individualized review of your application.
Is the readmission application currently online? Yes, please download the Application for Readmission to Designated Membership in pdf format and fax to 312-335-4415 or e-mail to readmission@appraisalinstitute.org.
Can I send my pro-rated dues now and complete the continuing education later? For administrative purposes, we ask that you complete continuing education requirements for readmission to designated membership prior to application.
Will my dues payment be prorated depending on when during the year I am readmitted? Yes, annual membership dues will be prorated.
Whom do I contact if I have additional questions? Admissions & Continuing Education |
