AI Leads Industry Roundtable on Appraisal Trends
On Feb. 26, the Appraisal Institute’s elected officers led a roundtable discussion in New York in which they discussed appraisal trends. Highlights of the event are featured in the May 2013 issue of the American Bankers Association’s ABA Banking Journal.
AI President Richard L. Borges II, MAI, SRA; President-Elect Ken P. Wilson, MAI, SRA; Vice President M. Lance Coyle, MAI, SRA; and Immediate Past President Sara W. Stephens, MAI represented the organization and were joined on the roundtable by four leading banking professionals.
The key topics focused on appraiser independence, examination issues and appraisal options and services. The participants discussed the importance of geographic competence and proper education and training for appraisers, as well as the advantages of appraisals compared to automated valuation models and broker price opinions.
AI President Borges said, “The one thing that everyone should take away from this discussion is that a good appraiser should have the same opinion of value no matter who the client is. That is the test of a good appraiser.”
