AI in the News: Media Covers AI President’s Testimony on “Dangerous” Regulation
Appraisal Institute President Sara W. Stephens, MAI, garnered widespread media coverage after testifying June 28 on Capitol Hill. She appeared in at least 159 national and local online media outlets. In her testimony to the House Financial Services’ Subcommittee on Insurance, Housing and Community Opportunity, Stephens testified about the Appraisal Foundation’s creation of a new Appraisal Practices Board that is delving into appraisal practice matters without Congressional authorization. The Foundation does not have authority to codify appraisal methods and techniques, she said. “This is a dangerous and unjustified move that risks hamstringing and jeopardizing the real estate appraisal profession altogether,” Stephens testified. “The regulatory burden for appraisers is on the cusp of being expanded exponentially.” Also featured in national media coverage this past week were Vince Vaughn, SRA, Darwin Ernst, Associate member, and Peter LeQuire, Associate member, Valuation Review; Carolyn Kapusta, MAI, CoStar Advisor; Joel Tate, Associate member, Mortgage Daily; and George Demopulos, SRA, PRWeb.com, DigitalJournal.com and Yahoo! Real Estate. Tate also appeared in the Raleigh (N.C.) News & Observer, Charlotte (N.C.) Observer and Winston-Salem (N.C.) Journal; and Demopulos also was featured in the Danbury (Conn.) News-Times, Westport (Conn.) News and Houston Chronicle. These stories are among the recent media coverage included in the “AI in the News” feature on the members-only section of the Appraisal Institute website.
