Appraisal Institute President Sara W. Stephens, MAI, began her appearances Nov. 1 on American Airlines in-flight radio and in the airlines’ American Way in-flight magazine.
Stephens’ involvement with American Airlines will last through the end of December, during which time she will educate airline passengers on why appraisals sometimes do not correspond with a home’s listing or contract price. Stephens noted that appraisers are undertaking the same thorough research and thoughtful analysis they always have in order to reach a credible opinion of value.
“Appraisers don’t set the real estate market; they reflect what’s happening in the market,” Stephens said. “Buyers and sellers often have emotional value attached to a home, and they shouldn’t assume an appraisal is somehow wrong if it doesn’t match the listing or contract price.”
