Designation Requirements

Paths to Designated Membership

MAI Designated Membership Chart

The MAI designation is held by individuals who are experienced in the valuation and evaluation of commercial, industrial, residential and other types of properties, and who advise clients on real estate investment decisions. To pursue MAI Designated membership, one must be a general Candidate for Designation.

SRA Designated Membership Chart

The SRA designation is held by individuals who are experienced in the analysis and valuation of residential real property. To pursue SRA Designated membership, one must be a residential Candidate for Designation.

Dual MAI and SRA Designated Memberships Chart

For those pursuing both MAI and SRA Designated memberships simultaneously. To pursue Dual Designated membership, one must be a residential and general Candidate for Designation.
 

AI-GRS Designated Membership

The AI-GRS designation is a new designation program aimed at providing professional general reviewers with the knowledge and skills needed to satisfy issues related to due diligence and risk management often requested by their employers and clients.

AI-RRS Designated Membership

The AI-RRS designation is a new designation program aimed at providing professional residential reviewers with the knowledge and skills needed to satisfy issues related to due diligence and risk management often requested by their employers and clients.

AI-GRS and AI-RRS Designation Requirements Chart For AI Designated Members

Current, MAI, SRA, SRPA, and RM Designated members interested in pursuing the general or residential review designations. Must be a residential review and/or general review Candidate for Designation to pursue a review designation.

Alternative Paths for Individuals Who Hold Other Credentials

Alternative requirements to obtain AI's MAI, SRA, AI-GRS, and AI-RRS Designations. Alternative tracks available for those who hold other credentials.

CRA - Appraisal Institute of Canada

CIS HypZert (F) - HypZert GmbH (Germany)

CCIM - CCIM Institute

LREA Certification - Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (Japan)

IFA - National Association of Independant Fee Appraisers

RPRA - American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers

ARM - American Society of Appraisers

Many Appraisal Institute professionals who have demonstrated knowledge, experience and commitment to the profession also hold the SRPA, SREA or RM designations. The Appraisal Institute's predecessor organizations offered these designations prior to AI's formation in 1991.
