Comprehensive Examination

MAI Designation Comp Exam

The General Comprehensive Examination for the MAI Designation path is a four-part modular exam with multiple-choice questions. The exam may cover anything in the Appraisal Institute body of knowledge, including the required AI course examinations, AI textbooks, and current appraisal literature.

AI-GRS Designation Comp Exam

The General Review Comprehensive Examination for the AI-GRS Designation path is a two-part modular exam with multiple-choice questions. The exam may cover anything in the Appraisal Institute body of knowledge, including the required AI course examinations, AI textbooks, and current appraisal literature.

AI-RRS Designation Comp Exam

The Residential Review Comprehensive Examination for the AI-RRS Designation path is a one-part exam with multiple-choice questions. The exam may cover anything in the Appraisal Institute body of knowledge, including the required AI course examinations, AI textbooks, and current appraisal literature.

2017 Comp Exam Dates

November 1-30, 2017

Please aim to submit your Application by September 20, 2017. Seating at the testing centers will become very limited after September 20, 2017.

2018 Comp Exam Dates

Note: The 2018 exam windows will be available for application in late November 2017.

April 1-30, 2018

Please aim to submit your Application by February 20, 2018. Seating at the testing centers will become very limited after February 20, 2018.

August 1-31, 2018

Please aim to submit your Application by June 20, 2018. Seating at the testing centers will become very limited after June 20, 2018.

November 1-30, 2018

Please aim to submit your Application by September 20, 2018. Seating at the testing centers will become very limited after September 20, 2018.

Due to the nature and logistics of the exam delivery format, transfers and refunds are NOT permitted

Examinees must take ALL required modules within their chosen 30-day window or they will receive an incomplete on ALL modules in that offering.

Comp Exam Eligibility Requirements

  • Attend and pass all required courses/exams.
  • Receive credit for the college degree requirement.
  • Meet the Ethics and Standards requirements for Candidates (this requirement consists of both Business Practices and Ethics and Standards).

Please note: All required examinations must be taken at least six weeks prior to your desired Comp Exam window to allow time for grading.

Comp Exam Fees

  • Taking four (4) modules = $475
  • Taking three (3) modules = $375
  • Taking two (2) modules = $250
  • Taking one (1) modules = $125
