The mission of the Appraisal Institute Education department is to develop programs to meet the training and professional development needs of real estate appraisers. Through our programs, individuals gain the skills and knowledge required to meet Appraisal Institute and state continuing professional development needs. Our programs also contribute to individuals meeting the education requirements for the Appraisal Institute professional designations.
Qualifying Education for Licensing/Certification
The Appraisal Institute Qualifying Education curriculum is designed specifically to meet the education requirements established by the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) and helps you prepare for the licensing exam in your state.
The Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) is appointed by The Appraisal Foundation and establishes the qualification criteria for state licensing, certification and re-certification of appraisers. FIRREA mandates that all state certified appraisers must meet the minimum education, experience and examination requirements promulgated by the AQB. The AQB has also developed voluntary criteria for personal property appraisers.

With programs offered both in the classroom and online, Appraisal Institute Continuing Education programs provide convenience, flexibility and a wealth of knowledge to both commercial and residential appraisers.
Professional Development Programs
The Appraisal Institute offers professional development programs on topics that cover a body of knowledge in a specialty allowing participants to obtain educational competency in a property type or specialty area.
Participants who are eligible and who successfully complete a program will be placed on the program’s registry located on the Appraisal Institute web site. Completion of a program shows potential clients and employers that participants have completed education and passed related course exams in the particular specialized topic.
