ILDC Requirements & Guidelines (Potential Instructors Only)

General requirements for applicants that hold an AI Designation

  • Participants must hold an Appraisal Institute designation.

  • Prior teaching or public speaking experience is assumed. This program is not for novice instructors, but rather for those with proficient public speaking experience who wish to teach for the Appraisal Institute. 

  • Must not be the subject of any published disciplinary action by the Appraisal Institute for the past five years.

  • Comply with the Appraisal Institute’s continuing education program if a designated member.

  • Must submit recorded presentation (see below).

  • Must supply ILDC recommendation form

General requirements for applicants that do not hold an AI Designation, but hold a Ph.D.

Special eligibility requirements for non-designated Ph.D.’s, D.B.A.’s, and Ed. D.’s.

  • Applicant’s advanced degree must have been awarded by an accredited educational institution recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation, the United States Department of Education or both.

  • Applicant should be in a real estate appraisal related area.

  • Applicant must be active as an instructor with a minimum of two years teaching experience in a real estate appraisal related area.

  • Applicant must be a professional teacher at the college/university level in a real estate appraisal related area.

  • Must submit recorded presentation (see below).

  • Must supply ILDC recommendation form 

Requirements for Potential AI Instructors

  • 100% attendance required.  Includes participation in all pre-conference webinars.

  • Must submit recorded presentation 2-3 minutes in length* (Education Committee to provide choice of topics). ADD-ON VIDEO - Participants may wish to provide an additional previously recorded live presentation – no more than 5 minutes – on any real estate related topic. This add-on video is not required.     Presentation submission deadline is September 1, 2014.  *More information on video submission will be provided upon registration.

  • Applicant must submit recommendation form by September 1, 2014.

  • Applicant must receive an invitation to teach from the national AI Education Committee after the ILDC.

  • Those invited to become an AI instructor will receive options for auditing AI programs.  Invited participants must follow the regular audit policies as written, before instructing AI programs. 

Guidelines for Potential Instructors

  • The Appraisal Institute views your demeanor during the entire ILDC. The ILDC is your opportunity to prove that you have the skills and the interest to merit serving as a representative of the Appraisal Institute.
  • While the Education Committee intends to provide opportunities for Appraisal Institute instructors to improve their teaching skills, it is NOT the responsibility of the Education Committee to teach individuals how to be effective instructors.
  • Attendance at the ILDC does not guarantee that an individual will be approved to become an Appraisal Institute instructor. Participants who demonstrate strong communication skills in a classroom situation and solid appraisal subject knowledge will be approved. Since Appraisal Institute courses require the instructor to motivate a class for one or more days, the instructor must be more than an effective public speaker. The Education Committee is looking for individuals with special skills.
  • Approval of instructors by the Appraisal Institute is not permanent. Instructor performance is continually monitored through student evaluations and interpreted in accordance with the instructor guidelines set by the Education Committee. Instructor approval for program offerings is based on past evaluations.
  • Successful completion of the ILDC and compliance of all requirements does not guarantee teaching assignments. It is the responsibility of the individual to negotiate and enter into teaching assignments with Appraisal Institute and its chapters.
