PRESENTERS
SAM RASHKIN, National Director, ENERGY STAR for Homes. Over the last decade, the new home industry has experienced an impressive transformation to high-performance homes that combine the latest advances in energy efficiency, building science, and indoor air quality. An emerging service industry is bringing similar improvements to existing homes. This seminar will explain the principles and technologies underlying home performance and describe how ENERGY STAR, a voluntary initiative by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy, is transforming markets to bring high-performance homes all over the country. This seminar will also promote discussion about how appraisers can start accounting for the value of home performance improvements.
CINDY JACOBS, Senior Advisor, Commercial and Industrial Buildings Branch, Climate Protection Partnerships Division U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Office of Air and Radiation. This seminar will also provide an in-depth look at the uses of energy in commercial buildings, and how reducing this energy use can add to the value of a building. The attendee will learn the principles of the ENERGY STAR Buildings program, which is a proven strategy for assessing and reducing energy use in buildings, resulting in lower operating costs and reduced environmental impact. By the end of this seminar, students will have a basic knowledge of the major places within commercial buildings that energy is used, and the most effective ways to reduce energy consumption.
