CHICAGO (May 3, 2007) – The Appraisal Institute, the nation's largest association of real estate appraisers, has announced that Frederick H. Grubbe has been selected to serve as chief executive officer of the organization effective June 1, 2007.

Grubbe most recently served as president and chief executive officer of the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA), an association for fraternal benefit societies, where he was responsible for overseeing business and membership operations for the past six years. During this same period, Grubbe also served as president of Join Hands Corporation, a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting modern fraternalism through JOIN HANDS DAY, a national day of volunteering with an emphasis on promoting youth-adult partnerships.

Prior to joining the NFCA, Grubbe served as chief operating officer for the Education Resource Group, an international management training company that trains agency managers in the life insurance and financial services industries. He also was CEO of the THINK FIRST Foundation, an international organization dedicated to preventing and creating awareness about brain and spinal cord injuries.

From 1993-1996, Grubbe served as director of Strategic Planning and Special Programs for the Million Dollar Round Table. And from 1989-1993, he served in the administration of President George H. W. Bush, with presidential appointments as deputy director of the U.S. Office of Consumer Affairs and deputy administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), both of which followed two years as the U. "Fred Grubbe demonstrates an exceptional blend of strategic, marketing and leadership skills that will lead our organization," said Appraisal Institute president, Terry Dunkin, MAI, SRA. "His selection was endorsed unanimously by our board of directors, and we are confident that he is the right person to assume responsibility for overseeing the continued growth and prestige of the Appraisal Institute. I am impressed with his emphasis on consensus building and communication between leadership and staff."

Commenting on his appointment, Grubbe said: "It is an honor and privilege to be selected as the Appraisal Institute's chief executive officer, particularly in this, the 75th year of its history. Looking to the future, I see tremendous opportunity for the Institute, an organization that is synonymous with top-quality education, resources, professional practices and ethics, the very qualities that best serve the appraisal profession and the public interest. I look forward to working with the board of directors, the talented professional staff and the membership to continue the Institute's visible leadership role in the appraisal industry and to ensure that the level of services and support we provide to our members is second to none."

Grubbe received an MBA from the Loyola University Chicago Graduate School of Business and holds an undergraduate degree in journalism from Northern Illinois University. He is married with two children and resides in suburban Chicago.
