January 11, 2009 08:00 AM

CHICAGO (Jan. 11, 2009) – The Appraisal Institute is proud to announce the release of its newest publication, The Student Handbook to The Appraisal of Real Estate, 13th edition, by Mark R. Rattermann, MAI, SRA. This practical handbook serves as a complement to the latest edition of The Appraisal of Real Estate and is designed to assist students and valuation practitioners alike in understanding the appraisal profession, preparing for state licensing exams and embarking on a successful career in real estate valuation.

"The Student Handbook to The Appraisal of Real Estate is a great resource that appraisers can use to hone the skills needed to overcome challenges and perform appraisal assignments with consistency, competence and integrity," explained Jim Amorin, MAI, SRA, president of the Appraisal Institute. "The handbook is especially helpful as it walks readers through every chapter of the 13th edition of The Appraisal of Real Estate, summarizing key concepts along the way and identifying important terms."

To keep readers up to date on current trends, The Student Handbook to The Appraisal of Real Estate, 13th edition, includes:

  • Explanations and illustrations of the nuances of valuation theory and practice through real-world examples;
  • Presentations of sample problems that will allow readers to test their valuation knowledge every step of the way; and
  • Summaries of topics relevant to today’s appraisal practitioner.
"The Appraisal of Real Estate goes into great depth in discussing what the role of an appraiser is and how to conduct an appraisal," noted Anwell Tsai in the article "6 Must Reads for New Real Estate Investors." "There is much more to appraising then simply looking at comparable properties or doing a quick cash flow analysis."
