Appraisal Institute to Premiere Valuation of Green Residential Properties Seminar for Real Estate Professionals

November 19, 2008 08:00 AM
CHICAGO (Nov. 19, 2008) – The Appraisal Institute is proud to introduce its newest seminar, Valuation of Green Residential Properties, which will premiere December 3, 2008, in Denver, Colo. Designed for residential real estate professionals – both expert and novice – who wish to enhance and expand their practices in this growing industry, this timely seminar will explore market acceptance of the latest green program initiatives while presenting an in-depth study of how green building construction impacts home values.

"The Valuation of Green Residential Properties is essentially a companion to the commercial seminar, An Introduction to Valuing Green Buildings, which the Appraisal Institute debuted in June," explains Jim Amorin, MAI, SRA, 2009 president of the Appraisal Institute. "As the name of the new seminar implies, its content is focused on the aspects of what makes a residential property green and is designed to help appraisers learn more about the process of valuing green homes."

Created as a 7-hour seminar, Valuation of Green Residential Properties addresses the benefits of sustainable building practices and how to recognize green building techniques that may impact the application of an appraiser’s approach to value. Upon completion of this seminar, participants will be familiar with the National Association of Home Builders National Green Building Standard and will be able to understand the major components of the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design for Homes Rating System. "The green building industry is expected to value between $19 billion and $38 billion by 2010," notes Amorin. "It’s vital for appraisers and other industry professionals to understand the importance of this sector of the market going forward."
