Course Description
Most appraisers have tried an AI assistant for a paragraph or an email, and most have never been shown how to use one systematically. This seven-hour course moves licensed real estate appraisers from occasional use to deliberate professional practice through seven levels of capability: understanding what these systems are, communicating clearly with them, working conversationally, supplying documents, data, and photographs, directing retrieval and verifying sources, configuring persistent context, and recognizing where connected workflows fit. The course is deliberately tool-agnostic. Every capability is taught at the level of the category rather than the product, so the skills apply to whichever general-purpose AI assistant the appraiser uses. The instructor demonstrates each capability live on appraisal tasks, and participants leave with a step-by-step field guide for applying every procedure in their own practice.
Who Should Enroll
Licensed & certified real estate appraisers at every experience level. No prior AI experience is assumed, and participants who have tried these tools and stopped are as much the intended audience as those who have never started.
Course Objectives
Course Objective
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
1. Explain how a generative AI model produces a response, and distinguish it from a search engine, a database, and an authoritative source
2. Identify the four professional checkpoints — permission, verification, ownership, and the record — and explain how each applies to AI-assisted work under USPAP
3. Identify the elements of an effective instruction — task, context, constraints, and output — and explain how each changes the quality of a response to an appraisal request
4. Describe conversational techniques — revision, being interviewed, critique, and alternatives — that keep professional judgment with the appraiser, and recognize agreement that is not confirmation
5. Distinguish what an AI tool observed in a supplied document, spreadsheet, or photograph from what it inferred, and identify the verification each type of output requires
6. Determine when a question requires retrieval of current information rather than model knowledge, and describe how to trace a claim to its primary source
7. Explain the differences among conversation context, saved memory, and project workspaces, including the confidentiality exposure each creates
8. Describe how connected apps, scheduled tasks, and agents extend AI assistance into workflows, and identify the questions an appraiser must answer before enabling them
Goal: To give licensed real estate appraisers a working, tool-independent command of general-purpose AI assistants — able to direct them clearly, supply them the right material, verify what they produce, and defend how any AI-assisted work product was developed — with a reference guide that turns each demonstrated capability into a repeatable procedure after the course ends.
Course Materials & Recommended Books
The course is delivered entirely by instructor demonstration. Participants do not need an account, a laptop, or any software, and are not asked to work along.
