International Affiliation

Appraisal Institute offers several affiliations for those connected to the real estate valuation industry. Our most popular affiliations for international individuals are Student Affiliate and Practicing Affiliate. For individuals interested in earning an AI designation, we also offer the Candidate for Designation program in which individuals can pursue one of our four prestigious designations.

AI Professionals whose principal place of business and residence falls outside the United States, United States Territories and Canada shall receive a 25% discount on annual dues and fees.

Student Affiliate: University students who are not practicing valuers but may be interested in real property valuation (or related field) in the future (those pursuing undergraduate or graduate degrees).

Practicing Affiliate: Valuers of real property who are interested in affiliating with Appraisal Institute (appraisers, assessors, appraisal reviewers, consultants, analysts, etc.).

Affiliate: Those who are interested in real property valuation but do not value real property (bankers, lawyers, accountants, developers, investors, real estate sales, vendors, etc.).

Candidate for Designation: Valuers of real property who are seeking Designated membership. Candidates pursue a designation path for the MAI, SRA, AI-GRS or AI-RRS designations.

International Equivalency Course: General
This course has been designed to aid professional real property valuers located throughout the world in establishing a standardized measurement of their individual valuation knowledge, expertise, and experience. This theory-based curriculum includes descriptions, examples, and discussions that will stimulate real property valuation professionals from any region. For international individuals looking to join the Candidate for Designation program, seeking MAI Designated membership. This course and examination is valuable to individuals who do not currently have equivalency to enter the Candidate program.

The International Valuation Standards Council issued its International Valuation Standards 2021, and Appraisal Institute professionals can get a free copy at www.ivsonline.org by entering promotion code appraisalinsti when signing up.

International Valuation Standards Overview (IVS)

This course provides an overview of the standards that affect real estate noted in the International Valuation Standards. Specifically written for domestic and international valuation experts with a working knowledge of valuation techniques as well as for those with a financial and real estate background, the course emphasizes ethical behavior and competent practice. Through guidance and examples, the material shows participants how to apply the IVS principles as widely as possible. The International Valuation Standards give clients, other intended users, and the public a reason to place their trust in services performed by professional valuation experts. In other words, they can have greater confidence in valuation services because they know that valuation experts completing assignments under the International Valuation Standards are required to follow standards of ethical practice.
