President's Message
Mike, Sandy and I had the privilege of attending the LDAC meeting last month and connecting with members - members who are passionate, thoughtful, and deeply invested in the future of the Appraisal Institute. There were two “Q&A with the Officers” sessions with lively discussions in between. One area of discussion was about how we govern ourselves, how our leaders are elected and how we ensure member voices are heard.
I appreciate the thoughtfulness of every one of those questions. My take-away was that you care about the organization and want to be more involved in shaping its future, but don’t know how to go about that. Let’s change that. Right now, we have an opportunity to channel that energy into action.
We have a vacancy in the office of Vice President. The National Nominating Committee will accept recommendations until June 23, 2025 at 5 pm CT to fill that vacancy for the remainder of the 2025 term. The individual we elect will follow the leadership path to become 2026 President-Elect, 2027 President, and 2028 Immediate Past President.
If you want to serve in this position—or if you know someone whose leadership and commitment would benefit our organization—please let us know by submitting a written recommendation. Please send it to Sandra Adomatis, SRA, Chair of the 2025 National Nominating Committee, c/o Joan Barngrover at jbarngrover@appraisalinstitute.org.
After the recommendations are received, the National Nominating Committee will reach out to each potential candidate with next steps. You can find the qualifications and responsibilities for Vice President in our Bylaws and on our website.
How Our Governance Works—And How You Play a Role
The questions I heard at LDAC and at chapter meetings are about how leaders are selected and how members are involved. Here’s the process:
We organize our governance structure around 10 geographic Regions, and these Regions are central to how we choose our national leaders.
Each Region elects two representatives to serve on the Board of Directors. These Board members are voting participants in key decisions, including the election of Vice President.
These individuals are also the Chair and Vice Chair of the Region.
Each Region also elects one person to serve on the National Nominating Committee. This means that members—through participation in their Chapters and Regions—directly influence who sits on the Board and who helps select candidates for national office.

By participating at the Regional level—whether by voting, volunteering on committees, or running for office—you help decide who represents your interests and helps guide our national priorities.
How Committee Appointments Work—and How You Can Get Involved
In addition to elected leadership roles, we rely on volunteers across dozens of committees, panels, and project teams that help carry out the mission of the Appraisal Institute. Serving on a committee is one of the most impactful ways to share your expertise, contribute to the profession, and build lasting connections with other appraisers from across the country. Whether you’re new to volunteering or a long-time contributor, I ask you to raise your hand and get involved.
I am happy to announce the Call for Volunteers for the 2026 Appraisal Institute Committee Term is now open!
To be considered for a seat on next year’s committee rosters, all interested volunteers must complete the Leadership Resource Registry (LRR) by August 31, 2025. As we continue to grow and strengthen our volunteer community, we encourage you to complete your personal information within your AI member account, including as much demographic information as you are comfortable sharing. This helps us make informed, inclusive committee selections that reflect the depth of our profession. We greatly value the unique skills and experience each volunteer brings — please click the “additional information" button on the LRR to indicate the areas where you feel you can best contribute to AI’s committees and initiatives.
Leadership Matters—And It Starts With Us
We’ve had tough conversations and made important changes. We’ve faced questions head-on, and we’ve reaffirmed our commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusion. We know that we still have work to do—and we need leaders who are ready to meet the moment.
If you believe in this organization and want to see it grow stronger, please consider submitting a recommendation for Vice President. Whether you’re putting your own name forward or recommending someone else you believe has the qualifications to serve AI well as an officer, you’re helping us move forward. And we can only move forward together.
