"What I Value" featuring Bradley Carter

CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES, June 26, 2025 – The Appraisal Institute, the leading association of real estate appraisers, released the fifth in its series of short videos profiling real estate appraisers. Each video highlights the Appraisal Institute's members' professional commitment to the public trust and their communities, and the different ways that appraisers bring high-level professional expertise and experience to their communities and the real estate industry.

Bradley Carter, CRE, MAI, CCIM, CDEI, a seasoned real estate appraiser with over 35 years of experience, shares his professional journey and insights in the video, emphasizing the essential role of objectivity in the appraisal process. Carter, who began his career after transitioning from the demanding restaurant industry, discovered his passion for real estate valuation during the sale of his own home—a pivotal moment that launched a decades-long career. Specializing in complex, special-purpose properties such as auto dealerships and religious facilities, Carter highlights the unique challenges and rewards of these assignments. His deep industry knowledge allows him to deliver appraisals that go beyond standard metrics, adding real value to clients and the broader appraisal community.

Driven to share his expertise, Carter has authored several books, including guides on appraising auto dealerships, restaurants, and religious properties, available for purchase at the Appraisal Institute bookstore. These works aim to help other appraisers apply core valuation principles to specialized property types often overlooked in traditional training. Reflecting on his enduring enthusiasm for the field, Carter concludes, "I value appraiser objectivity and independence,” a principle that continues to guide his work and contributions to the profession.

As the library of “What I Value” short videos grows, the Appraisal Institute continues to build its appraiser-centric content focused on the challenges and opportunities professional appraisers have faced, and seized, in their careers. Behind each short video are hours of B-roll, behind-the-scenes clips, and extended interviews which will be available to the Appraisal Institute and its Chapters as they work together to create more content that highlights to the public the essential roles that professional appraisers play in our communities and economy.
