The Value of the SRA Designation
How has the designation impacted your career?
Megan Johnson Judd, SRA
Obtaining the SRA designation has been a transformative experience in my appraisal career. My initial journey with the Appraisal Institute, though challenging, led me to this invaluable designation that has solidified my expertise and credibility, especially in the realm of litigation support and expert witness testimony. While I once felt out of place as a residential appraiser in a largely commercial-focused association, I now feel truly welcomed, valued, and seen as an essential member of our chapter. Now, my contributions have been encouraged and celebrated, from managing the chapter newsletter to joining board meetings where my perspective as a residential appraiser is valued and heard.
Being a woman in this field and finding my voice within the Appraisal Institute has been especially meaningful. The shift in leadership, toward inclusivity and diversity, has redefined the organization as a place where education, quality, and professionalism are prioritized for everyone. I’m thrilled to engage with a network of high-caliber professionals, including Sandra Adomatis, SRA, who has invited me to contribute to special projects and represent residential appraisers at a higher level. Earning my SRA designation has not only deepened my skills but has allowed me to participate more as a leader, both locally and nationally. Moving forward, I’m eager to continue expanding my education, contribute to the Appraisal Institute’s mission, and encourage future appraisers to embrace the path of excellence that the SRA represents.
Amy Frink, SRA
If I had only known! I always thought “what can an SRA do for me” well, now I know. I achieved my SRA in 2022, after appraising for over two decades, at the urging of an Appraisal Institute friend, and now I am getting residential work from all kinds of new avenues. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself that it will be worth it.

Being a member of the Appraisal Institute has been essential to my professional growth and commitment to excellence. It provides access to advanced education, a network of knowledgeable peers, and the latest industry standards, all of which elevate the quality of my work. The Institute has equipped me with the knowledge and skills to complete more complex assignments, while the networking opportunities have been invaluable in tackling challenging projects. This membership aligns perfectly with my goal of delivering accurate, unbiased appraisals and staying ahead in a constantly evolving field, ensuring I provide the best possible service to my clients.

Approximately 10 years ago, after 2 decades in the business, I decided to pursue my SRA designation, recognizing the shifting trends in appraisal demand from the lending side. This decision provided me with the highest level of education, enabling me to move away from lending-focused work and confidently take on more challenging and complex assignments. The advanced education, experience, and ethical standards required for the SRA designation far exceed those of a basic state certification, resulting in both increased income and greater professional fulfillment. Additionally, becoming actively involved in my local chapter provided valuable networking opportunities that further enhanced my career.
