If I had only known! I always thought “what can an SRA do for me” well, now I know. I achieved my SRA in 2022, after appraising for over two decades, at the urging of an Appraisal Institute friend, and now I am getting residential work from all kinds of new avenues. I wish I could go back in time and tell myself that it will be worth it.

Approximately 10 years ago, after 2 decades in the business, I decided to pursue my SRA designation, recognizing the shifting trends in appraisal demand from the lending side. This decision provided me with the highest level of education, enabling me to move away from lending-focused work and confidently take on more challenging and complex assignments. The advanced education, experience, and ethical standards required for the SRA designation far exceed those of a basic state certification, resulting in both increased income and greater professional fulfillment. Additionally, becoming actively involved in my local chapter provided valuable networking opportunities that further enhanced my career.
