How to Register for Courses
The Appraisal Institute Online Courses for Real Estate Professionals Program is available through September 21, 2026.
Important:
To be eligible to register for online Appraisal Institute courses at no cost, please send your name and email to the USACE Library at Library@usace.army.mil or call 309-794-5576 for submission to Appraisal Institute’s internal USACE roster. After your name is added, you will be able to register for the online courses listed below. Additionally, please coordinate with your supervisor if you are using work time to complete the Appraisal Institute courses.

Army/USACE Realty Specialists are also eligible to enhance their professional development by taking self-paced Online Education courses towards obtaining an appraiser license.
Appraisal Institute welcomes veterans and believes, based on the skills veterans possess, a real estate appraisal career is a beneficial and worthwhile next step. Veterans have demonstrated a commitment to protecting and defending our nation. Real estate appraisers provide independent and impartial opinions of a property’s value and also promote public trust in the valuation of real estate.

Whether you decide to become a residential or commercial appraiser, you'll need to meet education, experience, and state licensing or certification exam requirements starting with these four programs:
- Basic Appraisal Principles
- Basic Appraisal Procedures
- 15-Hour National USPAP Course
- Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser Course
After completing these courses, you’re on your way to becoming a Trainee Appraiser.
These four courses are the minimum requirements set by the Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB). Check with your state to see if additional courses are required. Once these courses are completed, you’re ready to pursue the next step towards licensing or certification.
