    What can I appraise as a Certified General Real Property Appraiser?

    You’ll be able to appraise residential and commercial properties without regard to value or complexity.

    What steps do I need to take?

    Step 1: You must hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent)

    Step 2: Complete at least 300* hours of qualifying education

    OR

    If you hold a valid Trainee Real Property Appraiser or Licensed Residential Real Property Appraiser credential, you must complete the following additional courses: 

    OR

    If you hold a valid Certified Residential Real Property Appraiser credential, you must complete the following additional courses:

    *Check with your state to see if additional courses (or criteria) are necessary.

    Step 3: Obtain 3,000 hours of experience in no fewer than 18 months (1,500 hours must be in non-residential appraisal work).

    Step 4: Pass the National Certified General Real Property Appraiser Exam.
